The 2016 Oscar Winners!

The Academy Awards managed to be controversial, predictable  and surprising this year. The Revenant picked up the Oscars for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Cinematography but failed to bag Best Film - this went to Spotlight.

Mad Max: Fury Road scooped up the most awards overall - winning six of those gold statuettes - many in the more technical categories.

Brie Larson won the Academy Award for best actress for her superb performance in Room. Mark Rylance won the best supporting actor category for his role in Bridge Of Spies and Alicia Vikander won the Oscar for best supporting actress for her part in Ex Machina.

As widely predicted, Inside Out won best animation and Son Of Saul won best foreign language film.

Meanwhile, Amy won the award for best documentary.

My Predictions... How Did I Do?

Last week, I decided to publish my Oscar 2016 predictions. These were not the awards that I would have given, but what I thought the Academy might award.

Well, I didn't do too badly... but I did get a few of the big ones wrong! (Hangs head in shame)

I was surprised that the Academy chose Mark Rylance over Sylvester Stallone for best supporting actor. Surprised but very pleased that the British Actor got some well deserved recognition.

I also thought that Kate Winslet might get best supporting actress. However, I was really glad to see Alicia Vikander get the award for her superb performance in Ex Machina.

Meanwhile, I predicted that Cartel Land would get best documentary. The Oscar actually went to Amy. Of all the categories, this one was the hardest for me to predict. Amy is superb and had all of the momentum... but I still feel that Cartel Land is the better, more impressive film.

Most embarrassing of all... I got best picture wrong! Doh! I thought that the Oscar would go to The Revenant. I can only take comfort in the fact that the award eventually went to Spotlight - which would have been my choice.

Must do better next year!

What did you think of the Academy Awards this year? I'd love to know your thoughts on all of the winners and losers. Let me know by laving a comment in the box below!
